Hurricane Ian – The Aftermath of a Category 5 Hurricane

Hurricane Ian will go down in history as one of the deadliest and most destructive storms in recent history. The Category 5 hurricane walloped Cuba, Florida and the Carolinas leaving a wake of destruction and devastation in it’s path.

Making landfall in Florida on September 28th, 2022 Ian caused 161 fatalities, the majority of which were in Florida. The estimated cost of damage is over $113 billion, making it the costliest hurricane in the history of Florida and the third costliest weather disaster on record. It peaked with sustained winds of 160mph, and finally dissipated on September 30th after passing over the Carolinas.

Hurricane protection matters the most when it’s tested in a storm; photos that have come out show structures that are still standing with various forms of mitigation and protection products. It’s never too late in the season to talk about adding hurricane protection to your home, and always use an IHPA member!
